The BMX, the bicycle motocross sport which has been around since the 1960s keeps improving throughout the years. New bike designs and models are added along with many different variations on both racing and freestyle. There are bikes optimized for both sporty activities as well as bikes big enough for some of the elderly riders and bikes small enough that a 4 year old can us them to start off with smaller tricks and races with their friends.
But one question still stands in the BMX community, which bike is the best option for a newcomer.
Some have suggested that anything above a 20 inch bike could be a good fit since the leverage will most likely be a lower priority to the rider on their beginner bike. If you're going to be doing tricks on a bike that most certainly will not be the case, since leverage and weight distribution are the most important factors when going to the skate park or attempting flatland tricks. Which is why my recommendation is to get a 22 inch BMX, this intermediary bike is nearly the size of a cruiser but still maintains the balance of a flatland. But before you go looking for 22 Inch bikes for sale let me tell you how and why it was made.
The purpose of the 22 inch is to provide a stable ride without sacrificing the classic BMX look and feel. It's a perfect fit for any riders that are taller and don't fit the 20 inch variants, and while the cruiser could be used as a racing BMX the 22 inch bikes are tailored towards freestyle. Their nimble frame and larger wheels are the better option for riders that are new but at an age where they need a larger bike to work with. It was first designed by Faction BMX in 2002 as a combination of the two factors that 20 and 24 inch bikes are chosen for the leverage and speed.
And today their popularity is still on the rise since most of the well known brands now have 22 inch bikes for sale in their catalog. The momentum of the 22 inch movement is still gaining traction with new designs and options appearing on the market. With innovation comes a slew of new models that have different frames, handlebars chains sprockets and a myriad of other parts that give you even more options for what your bike will feel like.
